30 years of Tai Chi
teaching, in a phone.

Taichi Coach is a Tai Chi instructor that lives in your phone. Point the camera at yourself, practice, and the AI coach "Old Wang" watches your form in real time — telling you in Mandarin exactly what's off. And your camera frames never leave the phone.

Meet your coach

Old Wang — a Tai Chi teacher who never gets tired.

The AI coach's tone and pacing are modeled on Master Wang's 30 years of teaching — patient, unhurried, like the neighborhood teacher who's always willing to walk you through it one more time.

  • Real-time Mandarin voice coachingNo looking down at a screen mid-practice — the coach talks to you.
  • Endlessly patientPractice the same move twenty times; the twentieth gets the same warm tone as the first.
  • Dual curriculaThe standard 24-form for beginners, and Master Wang's own 17-form for his students.

Live coaching

It watches. It only remembers angles.

Your phone's camera is the coach's eye. Pose detection runs on-device; frames are seen and instantly forgotten — what remains is a score of 7 joint angles.

  • On-device pose detectionA MediaPipe model (9MB) runs on your phone's GPU. Practice works offline.
  • 30 scoring updates per secondKnow the moment your form drifts — not after a post-practice report.
  • Spoken correctionsOnly the numeric angles go to the AI to generate coaching lines — numbers, never images.

Elder mode

Designed for 50+.
Not "also supported".

The primary user is a senior — so large text, large buttons, and voice-first aren't accessibility afterthoughts. They're the defaults.

  • Large text, large buttonsKey numbers and controls are oversized. No hunting for glasses.
  • Voice-firstFrom practice start to the end-of-session report, everything can be listened to.
  • Weekly practice plansProgress is scheduled automatically from your performance. Just follow along.

Practice soundscapes

Some sound in the mountains, while you practice.

Five ambient soundscapes designed for slow practice, paced at 50–65 BPM — matched to Tai Chi breathing rhythm. All played offline.

Privacy

Privacy isn't a promise. It's the architecture.

Not "we won't look at your video" — there is technically no path for your frames to leave the phone.

0 frames

Camera frames uploaded, ever. Detection happens on-device; frames are seen and forgotten.

~50 numbers

What actually goes to the AI per frame — 7 joint-angle values, used to generate the spoken coaching.

One tap

Practice history lives only on your phone, and can be wiped entirely in settings, any time.

How it works

Five steps, all under privacy constraints.

From detection to hearing the coach's voice — under a second.

1

On-device pose detection

MediaPipe Pose Landmarker runs locally on the GPU. No frames are uploaded.

2

Real-time scoring

7 joint angles compared against the curriculum's reference template, 30 times per second.

3

AI coaching lines

Only the numeric scores are sent (via a Cloudflare Worker proxy) to the language model, which returns natural corrections.

4

Mandarin text-to-speech

Coaching is spoken in natural Mandarin — steady, with a touch of humor.

5

Records stay local

Practice history lives on the device and can be cleared at any time.
